The Critical Incident Stress Management, CISM, team of highly trained individuals at Gulf Coast are available on a 24/7 basis to help with the coping process that my be needed for your staff or the staff of one of your employers following a event that may have been life altering or traumatic to them or a fellow employee. These events often cause unusually strong emotional reactions, which have the potential to interfere with their ability to function at the time of the event or later. They can cause strong emotional or physical reactions and possibly aftershocks, or stress reactions, following a horrible event. 

Signs and symptoms may last a few days, weeks or even a few months depending usually on the level of trauma associated with the event. People handle and experience trauma differently but assessing the needs and meeting those needs is crucial in overcoming the effects of the trauma. 

It is the purpose of the CISM trained counselor to intervene, to triage either at or after an event and make an assessment as to the need for further services such as counseling. The CISM trained counselor is able to affectively make the assessment and then arrange for the appropriate services convenient for the employee.
